What's Next?
There are at least three ways to close a skill gap:
- For skills that are not core to your business model, you might consider outsourcing them. This can be accomplished by bringing in a contractor for a season or by hiring a service firm. For example, many companies outsource payroll.
- Other skills are closer to your core business model. This is your secret sauce – the way you differentiate yourself in the marketplace. For skills that are core to your business model, you can hire talent.
- Other skills are mission-critical. They are part of your identity as a company. For those skill sets, you may wish to partner with other people. These mission-critical team members may be cofounders of your company.
